Bee Hive Smoker

A mild smoke calms the bees down while working around the hive.

Capping the Larva

The worker bees collect the larva and transport them to be sealed up and grow into more worker bees as you see at the top of the frame.

Bee Keepers

It is the job of the bee keeper to inspect, clean, and search for new queens to keep the hives healthy and increase the population.

Inspection

The bee keeper inspects the frame for new queens capped on the edges and secludes her in a match box to be transported to a new hive.

White Tupelo (Ogeche)Tree Blossoms

The Tupelo blossoms are a small bud-like blossom with extending stamen that provide the nectar for the bees to gather. Its a very short season, sometimes just 3 weeks, and so very dependant on the weather which is at this time of year very rainy, windy, and very unpredictable.

Tupelo Bee Yard

During the off season the bees are fed (jars of liquid) to keep them strong during lean times. They are also loaded up and transported to other areas for pollination. The average life span of a honey bee is 21 days.
